Who Was Famous In the 1940s? Want to find them? Be sure to check out the 1940 US Census!

I love history and genealogy. I love the idea of being able to find who my relatives where, where they came from and of course their family secrets. I signed up to be a 1940 Blog Ambassador. What does one do as a 1940 Ambassador? Get the word out to every one that the 1940 US Census. On April 2, 2012, NARA will provide access to the images of the 1940 United States Federal Census for the first time. Unlike previous census years, images of the 1940 US Census will be made available as free digital images.

Today I am blogging about who was famous in the 1940's? I wasn't alive, but my father was and he was in the Navy. Being a Navy boy in the 40's meant having a pin-up girl. The most famous pin-up girl was Betty Grable. She was my dad's pin-up girl. I can remember her pin-up photo graced the family photo album. She was part of the family. I was too young to understand who she really was. I thought she was a relative. It wasn't to years later I found out she was my dad's first love. She was the first love of many boys during WWII.

Thank you Betty Grable for being my dad's first love.

It's Not All About Money

For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs. 1 Timothy 6:10 NIV

It's not all about money!
After you pick yourself up off the floor, hear me've heard it all before the love of money is the root of all evil. What do you believe?

Before you can really make an informed decision about what is true and right you first must know what it is.

It = is not all about money! It's not you're already saying....

NOPE! There is more to life(to it) than money. Sure we need money to survive. Money is a basic need, it's not a want. We need money, but why do we want money?

We want money for____________ (fill in the blank).
We want money to ____________ (fill in the blank).

We need money for ___________ (fill in the blank).
We need money to ____________ (fill in the blank).

Do you get IT now?

We as a society have gotten wrapped up in the money trap. We want things we know we can't really afford. Our wants outweigh out needs.

Some of my favorite money sayings stop me in my tracks when I forget it's not all about the money. Life is about survival, it's not about competition.

 My top  money-isms:

1. Do I look like a cash cow?  Don't flaunt what you really don't have. Don't be a ready source of cash to just throw away on a whim. Be a reservist...

2. Money doesn't grow on trees. This has to be my all time favorite saying. Some people still think money grows on trees and they can spend, spend, spend... It doesn't work that way. Money is something you earn for a honest days work. It is a responsibility.

We have(must be) to be good steward's of  our money(our lives). We have to invest for our future.

Money is a good, sound investment, but the love of money(and all it brings) will put you in the "poor house".

For more about money and how you should really use it I've listed a few helpful resources:

Remember it's(life) not all about's about who you are, where you're going and how you got there!

Be Mine

For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.

Today is Valentine's Day. A day for love. A day for candy, flowers and heart-shaped balloons. A day for romance....but it is also a day to be reminded of another great love; Jesus Christ!

However you choose to celebrate today be reminded of God's precious love for you. He loved you so much He gave you the ultimate Valentine's gift. He gave you the gift of eternity. I can't think of anyone one gift that I'd rather receive than His gift of salvation and redemption.

God gave me Love eternal; a Love that will never lie, cheat or fail.

So on this Valentine's Day celebrate the Love of Christ for His Love will never fade or leave us.

Leap of Faith

This is  leap-year month. Leap year falls every 4 years. For those born on the 29th of February they  technically age every four years, but their minds and bodies grow every year. Can you imagine if society only excepted their technical age as their legal age? How would you feel if you only aged every four years spiritual?

Growing spiritually is a leap of faith. It takes you into the unknown.  You leap without looking, because you know God will catch you. This is what a leap of faith is. It is believing in what you cannot see, but knowing it is there when you need it.

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1 NIV

Take a leap of faith today. Leap into your spirituality. Leap into the arms of the Lord. Trust, believe that the leap of faith you take is the leap that will save you.

And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. Hebrews 11:6 NIV

You Be the Judge-State v. Lucca

I have a penchant for law. I love to study law and am always fighting for the underdog. I search the internet for unusal criminal cases and happened upon a news article about a thirty-seven year old mother from North Carolina who was Tased at a local McDonald's drive-though by the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office while her three year old daughter watched in horror. Ms. Lucca was charged with second-degree trespassing.

See complete news article here.

I will be the defense attorney and present the facts in the case and my client's defense.
You are the jury and must decide whether she is guilty of second-degree trespassing or if there are extenuating circumstances in this case.

E. Lucca- suspect/victim
McDonald's Corp.-complainant
Cumberland County Sheriff's Office

Employee told witness defendant  the woman frequently comes to the restaurant and cuts in line.
McDonald's employee's know defendant had a proclivity for this type of behavior, but they continued to serve her anyway several times before until according to witness employee told him,  "We're not having it anymore, so we called the cops."

McDonald's employee's exacerbated the already tense situation by refusing her service. The complainant knew the defendant had her child in the vehicle.

When the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office arrived an already tense situation escalated out of control.

A good hour had passed between the time of the initial incident until deputies subdued the defendant. All this took place in front of customers as well as the defendant's three year old child.

The defendant was charged with second-degree tresspassing which could have been avoided had:

The McDonald's employee took the woman's order as previous due to the fact McDonald's had prior knowledge of the defendant's proclivity and could have pursued legal action before hand.

The defendant did act with intent, but did she act with malice?
Did McDonald's act with malice which caused the defendant to be Tased? (remember they had knowledge of her behavior previous to this incident, but continued to serve her instead of taking appropriate action.)
Did the Cumberland County Sheriff's Office use excessive force in removing the woman from her vehical?

As the jury you must determine if the defendant is guilty if second-degree tresspassing.
