Joy

The theme for Christian Writers blog chain this month is joy. It's ironic for the topic to be joy when this month I don't have much to be joyful about. I don't have a job, my family is without transportation and the list could go on, but I wanted to find one thing this month that I could celebrate in joy.

The one thing I can be joyful about is that Christ died for my sins, so I could live. He is my joy this month. Yesterday was Palm Sunday, a day many celebrated by re-creating the entry of the Jesus in the Jerusalem on the back of a donkey. There is joy in that.

There is joy in Good Friday. Yes, there is joy in the crucifixion of our Lord. He died for us. He made the ultimated sacrifice. We can celebrate with joy in our hearts, because we know on Easter Sunday He arose from the dead.

Although, my joy may be faltering this month, I am still joyful in hope. Joy does exist. It's in your heart and soul. It's in Christ who dies on the cross for you.

It's as I've always heard, as well as experienced: real joy is not an emotion, it's an state of being. When we focus on God's provisions instead of life's detours, we can have joy all the time, even when we're not happy.

Sorry to hear of your troubles...will be praying. You are so right about Good Friday being a time of Joy. It was a GOOD Friday for mankind even if it wasn't a good day for Jesus.
Peace and Blessings

Yes! Our joy is His obedience to the cross. We'll never know what it cost, but we know He did it for us. Such joy trumps all earthly sorrows. That's not to say that earthly sorrows don't exist, of course, but it helps to put them in perspective. :)

Very nice post. The Scripture you highlighted, Romans 12:12, is very appropriate. It is definitely the hope of Jesus that brings us joy. Then in that joy, we can be patient in tribulation. I'm sorry to hear of your difficulties. May our Lord meet your every need and continue to encourage your heart with His joy and peace.

Thanks for sharing Romans 12:12. It's a great verse. I am sorry to hear that life is difficult for you at the moment - but what a great example you are setting by turning your thoughts to what Jesus has done for you - the greatest reason for joy. The great thing about joy - as opposed to happiness - is that we can experience regardless of our circumstances.

It's good that you can still find joy in the wonder of serving Christ. I've heard it said that joy and happiness are not synonymous. where as happiness may depend on outward circumstances, joy comes from within. Blessings

Thank you Debra for sharing your triumph! Things are temporary but the Lord is eternal. You are blessed and all that you need has been provided, look for the provision! Things are not as they seem.

Oh, Debra, I'm so sorry things are tilted on the negative side right now. I totally understand how you feel. One of the passages that I have clung to is Hab. 3:17-18. When all goes down the drain, yet will I praise Him! Praying for you. May you have a very blessed Easter.

Excellent post, Debra. Thanks for sharing your struggles with us and showing us how to count it all joy when you encounter various kinds of trials. As a friend reminded us in his message last Sunday, we're to be thankful in all things, even when we're not thankful for all things. Maintain that gratitude attitude, and you'll come out stronger in the end.

Debra - I am thankful you see that our joy is in Christ. I know there are many difficult situations in life but encourage you to focus on Him.

Joy is the strength the Holy Spirit gives us to get through tough times like this. I pray He gives you an overflowing of it in your current circumstances. Thanks for your gift of sharing.
